The appearance of specialized linguistic thought trends represents a revolution of thought in Western linguistics.

This has been transferred to the Arabic linguistic field.

Thus Arabic was not far from this new movement when the linguistic scene was divided into proponents and opponents.

In this paper there is an attempt to shed light upon the efforts of Nu’man Bu Qurra’s through his works from two aspects: the first is tracing the path of the Western linguistic thought and identifying the points in common with Arabic linguistics.

The second aspect is locating the place of the Arabic thought within this cognitive and methodological dispersion, the pragmatic thinking in the Arabic tradition, the concept of pragmatics and the most important methodological and cognitive issues.

The paper is divided into a preface about Nu’man Bu Qurra’s biography and his scientific career followed by two sections, a conclusion and a list of references.
