Abstract EN

This study aimed to measure the level of digital citizenship skills among middle and secondary school female students and teachers in Al Madinah Al Munawwarah.

The sample consisted of (417) female students and teachers from middle and secondary school in Al Madinah Al Munawwara and they were chosen randomly.

The study was applied in the second semester of the academic year (1442 AH/ 2021AD).

The study adopted the descriptive survey approach and used the questionnaire as a tool for collecting data.

The questionnaire included three sections according to the classification of Mike Ripple and then it was classified to the constructs of respect, education, and protection.

The study revealed several results including that the response of female students and teachers to the three constructs (respect, education, and protection) was high, and the response of the respect construct was higher.

The results also indicated that there were statistically significant differences at the level of significance (a < 0.05) in all construct of digital citizenship skills among female students due to the difference in the school stage in favor of secondary school female students.

There were statistically significant differences at the level of significance (a < 0.05) in all construct of digital citizenship skills among female teachers due to the difference in the number of years of experience in favor of the category (more than 10 years).

There were no statistically significant differences in all construct of digital citizenship skills among female teachers due to the difference in academic qualifications, and there were statistically significant differences at the level of significance (a < 0.05) in all construct of digital citizenship skills among female teachers due to the difference in specialization in favor of female teachers from the computer specialization.

The study revealed several recommendations including educating the community about the importance of digital citizenship, its advantages, goals, and standards.

The study pointed to the urgent need for more studies and research on digital citizenship, and the need for universities and research centers to pay attention to educating society about digital citizenship, and to conduct specialized scientific studies in this field.

It also recommended the necessity of qualifying male and female teachers and students and increasing their awareness of the importance of digital citizenship, its advantages and adherence to its standards, the importance of including the computer subject course in public education and in universities, institutes and colleges of the topics on digital citizenship and the role of the audio, read, or visual media in educating students and their awareness of the concept of digital citizenship.

The study revealed several proposals including conducting similar studies that measure the level of digital citizenship for female students and teachers in the rest of the cities and governorates of the Kingdom and include all educational stages from the primary stage to the university stage.
