Abstract EN

This research aims to examine the prepositions in the Arabic language, survey them, and provide definitions for them based on the explications of earlier scholars and linguists.

It also endeavors to describe their meanings in accordance with the Holy Qur’an and the Sunna (Prophet’s traditions) and tracks the modifications that occurred to their meanings compared to their lexical contexts.

Therefore, the research has to delve into an exploration of the categorization of prepositions to elucidate that there are certain prepositions that are particularly related to the nouns, others that are closely related to verbs, and a third category that can be used with both of them.

After this, the research explores the scholars ’attitudes concerning the dependability of the meaning of the prepositions whether they have independent meaning on their own or have to rely to other words.

The research shows the three different views in this field and the arguments held by the supporters of each of them.

It also focuses on the efforts that were exerted by Ibn Jinny in explaining these prepositions.
