Abstract EN

The objective of this paper is to examine whether an Okun relationship between output and unemployment is present in the Algerian economy.

which states that the negative relationship between movements of unemployment rate and real GDP can be determined.

The results of a study concluded that after the application of the bounds testing approach of co integration, and causal test in the concept of Granger in the short run and Toda- Yamamoto about the long run, there is not a a balance relationship between unemployment and growth in Algeria.

So Okun's law has not achieved.

This is explained by the nature of the non-productive rentier Algerian economy, the gap between the drivers of labor supply and demand.

, therefore the unemployment is structural and not cyclical, that calls a economic policies which support economic diversification in order to achieve the negative relationship between economic growth and unemployment in the long run.
