A contrastive linguistic study of palindromes in English and Arabic

Abstract EN

The present paper is an attempt to study " palindrome " as a linguistic phenomenon .

A palindrome is defined as a word, phrase or a sentence that can be read the same when reversed.

The study falls into three sections ;the first deals with palindrome in English as definitions, types and purposes.

On the other hand , second tackles the same concept in Arabic trying to discover its effect in Arabic poetry .

Accordingly , the third section presents the conclusions and remarks concerning the similarities and differences of using and forming palindromes in English and Arabic.
