Abstract EN

The study aimed to identify patterns of electronic rumors in social media (Twitter as a model), and to identify the social effects of rumors from the viewpoint of the respondents.The study used a qualitative approach; The scientific material was collected by using two methods.

The first method: The content analysis method was used for the total tweets associated with the Coronavirus, which was published in the Twitter account of the Anti-Rumor Authority.

The second method: interview that was used as an anthropological method using the focus group method.

The results revealed that the most prevalent rumors in social media (Twitter as a model) are related to health, and that the purpose of rumors is to spread fear and terror among members of society, as the study reached a set of results, among them: The most common rumors among individuals are metaphysical and theological rumors, such as: «corona epidemic is from God.», Ideological rumors, such as: «The epidemic is the result of fabricated viruses manufactured with the intent of cold wars between emerging economic systems.», and Scientific logical rumors, such as: «Bats are the carriers of corona virus.» The reasons and motivations for promoting rumors lie in the subjective causes related to the love of appearing, hostile goals against society, utilitarian reasons, reasons related to poor awareness and absence of punishment, and personal goals.
