The Tunisian Communist Party was established in 1921, as its members were subjected to numerous harassment and arrests by the French occupation authorities.

It practiced its activities alongside the national movement until the independence of Tunisia in 1956, whereby the Communist Party supported all the measures of the independent Tunisian government, especially the nationalization of major economic sectors such as transport, electricity, water , And mines, as well as reforms in the agricultural field, such as the dissolution of Ahbas and the nationalization of part of the land of the French centenarians.

In addition to the positive stances taken by the party from the young Tunisian authority, it criticized the negative appearances that began to emerge after independence, especially the story of the Tunisian bourgeoisie’s provocation of the results of the national struggles of the Tunisian people, attempts to dominate and exclusively in power, and the production of policies hostile to popular groups.

This was not in isolation from the party's calls to establish democratic traditions in the country in terms of maintaining political pluralism, especially since the Communist Party was the only political force opposing the country at the time, or by participating in democratic life represented in Parliament and municipal elections, the party participated in The founding elections for the House of Representatives since 1956, then participated in the next legislative session in 1959, and in the municipal elections that took place in the country despite the multiple harassment carried out by the authorities against him.
