Abu Madyan Shuaib is considered one of the elders of islamic mysticism.

he was born in Seville, and moved at an early age to fez.

then, he made a pilgrimage and lived in the East for a while and returned to fez before his settlement in Bejaia.

he died near tlemcen while heading to marrakesh in his request of the Almoravid Sultan Abi Youssef Yaqoub.

he was buried in al-Obbad located at that time in the area of Tlemcen.

A large number of historians, Sufis, and others were interested in writing his biography, briefly or with details.

Among them there are contemporaries or close to his time, such as Ibn Abd al-Karim al-Tamimi al-Fassi, Abu Ya`qub Yusuf al-Tadli, known as al-Zayyat, Ibn al-Abbar, and Ibn al-Atheer, the writer of al-Kamil in al-Tarikh.

but none of them provided us about the temporal milestones of his life.

thus, we remained unaware of his age when he was expelled from andalusia, as well as the period he resided in fez, the year in which he went for the pilgrimage and the period he spent in the east, etc.
