Sickness for the afflicted person is not only limited to the organic reality, but is also a condition that includes all the suffering that the sick person lives and suffers for as a result of the actions and looks of others.

It is difficult to bear the psychological impact of the disease, and the effect is more difficult and intense when the patient lives it as a curse that causes him underestimation on the part of others, or as a punishment that causes him shame and a feeling of sin, and this feeling is more intense when the patient experiences it with a sense of isolation and confinement.

The proposed work here is to know and follow the way in which a person with a contagious disease creates his own image.

In order to reach this picture, it was necessary to try to understand the suffering that the patient suffers and the psychological impact that the disease leaves on the patient.

The study depends on various techniques, including observation, free and semi-structured interview, and the patient's self-image scale, which is designed by the researcher.

The scale includes two dimensions: a.

A dimension of the patient lived with the diseaseb.

A dimension of the patient's role in his social environment.

This two dimensions constitute the overall self-image.

The study sample consisted of 434 patients in the University Hospital of Oran, of whom 262 were males and 172 were females.

The findings are: 1 - The ence of statistically significant differences in self-image between patients with and without an infectious disease.

2 - The results were discussed and linked to what was stated in the patients' statements during the interview.
