Abstract EN
The study aims to highlight the role played by the Quaestor in Byzantine government administration, the beginnings of the imperial quaestorship are shrouded in mystery, it is a mistaken emphasis to label the quaestor as the emperor's 'legal adviser', as if that was, but really The quaestor did not deal only with leges, initially he seems to have been simply an official honoured with the confidence of the emperor, who used the rhetorical skills with which Roman administrators were almost by definition endowed in the emperor's service, often as his spokesman, the quaestor's main function, In fact, He was the emperor's 'confidant'.
He not only gave legal advice but also had the power to 'restrain' the emperor against acts that threatened his position with his subjects and officials.
As we shall see, the office evolved and changed from the fourth to the Sixth century.
