Any changes or transformations to this encompass the profession and the role of professionals.

The world today, transformed into a “data world,” uses “Big Data” innovative strategies.

Thus, the way librarians perform their daily job has been transformed and the title of an information specialist has been changed to an information analyses or data scientist.

One wonders what other effects the Big Data would bring to the library specialist role in the future? The aim of this study is to reveal and identify the most important implications of the “Big data” on the profession, especially the aspects that affects professionals role and the competencies they must have in order to cope with the repercussions of this transformation.
