Poets' nicknames are a social and critical phenomenon.

They are also an early stage of the literary criticism; which sprang out of the beginnings of the Arabic poetry in order to point to the poets' characteristics.

As they are a key to the poet's life, a headword for his poetry, a title for his talent, a resonance for his art's quality, and an abbreviated certificate in one word by which the poet is judged so that he could be praised or condemned…etc.

Consequently, this research paper tackles the poets' nicknames, their causes, their relations, and their issues.

It also deals with the poets' interactions with them, and traces their impact on literature and criticism.
