Abstract EN

Lagash, one of the most important Sumerian cities state.

It was well-known in the Third Dynasties period (2600-2371 BC).

It extended in the Al-Gharaf basin, within the borders of the city of Al-Shatrah, 58 km north of Nasiriyah.

The archaeological evidence revealed that settlement in this region dates back to the fifth millennium BC.

Al-Shatra city and its environs includes more than (100) archaeological sites, the important sites between them is (37) sites according to documented statistics.

Here it must be said that Lagash and its archaeological sites were more than subjected to looting and destruction.

The British were the first to show interest in these sites
