Abstract EN

This study throws the spotlight on a crucial topic given the present and future nuclear terrorism threats facing the international community and their adverse impact on international peace and stability.

The key objective of this study is to envisage the future in case organized nuclear terrorist networks have access to nuclear weapons a matter which necessitates maintaining nuclear security and the capacity to control radioactive nuclear materials as well as equipment and nuclear facilities, and protecting them against acts of nuclear terrorism.

The study adopted descriptive and analytical approaches as appropriate ones to handle the topic.

The analytical approach is appropriate for examining, drawing conclusions from legal provisions and for explaining particular circumstances of the international combat against organized crime networks' acquisition of nuclear terrorism technology.

The study summed up with significant findings which help researchers understand risks posed by terrorist groups' acquisition of radioactive nuclear materials.

Findings included the international initiatives which reduce and prevent the proliferation of nuclear weapons and materials.

UN, along with nuclear energy international organizations made vigorous efforts to prevent and combat nuclear terrorism: an international convention on effective suppression and prevention of acts of nuclear terrorism was adopted in 2005.

The study contributed to develop a comprehensive concept which could advance the understanding of protecting international security against threats and challenges facing nuclear security by means of addressing new forms of global nuclear terrorism threats.
