Abstract EN

This study aims at presenting a detailed critical reading in Abi-Altayeb Al-Mutanabi’s “Oh My Heart is a Flame”, a poem that epitomizes the elusive kind of poetic discourse implicating “Lament” as a contextual threshold engulfed with poetics and intended to suggest intellectual and ideological functions.

In this poetic text, the subaltern, Al-Mutanabi, seems to be a forceful rival through his use of the verbal contest he employs throughout his poem towards authority exemplified by its model, Saif Al-Dawleh Al- Hamadani.

From a theoretical perspective, this study referred to subaltern postcolonial theories which embody a realistic analysis regarding the existential conflict between the Subaltern and the superior, the colonized and the colonizer, especially the critical studies that belong to Gayatri Spivak.

Regarding the empirical part, the study includes three intellectual dimensions: the oppressed voice of the subaltern – the everlasting lament, the elusive lament and destruction spaces, the revolution of the subaltern and non-subaltern, as well as the collapse of the center.
