Abstract EN

Introduction and key objective: The topic of this study is among the most important latest ones.

It involves a host of complicated legal and technical questions raised by the nature of nuclear crimes and their associated harm to people and environment.

The question is how evidence can be collected from nuclear crime scenes, given the radioactive contamination which defies human nature.

A second and third crime scene may result from such radioactive contamination which may also be transnational.

Additionally, what are the powers of judicial officers in examining nuclear crime scene? and What are the ways and rules governing such examination? The objective of this study is hence to provide answers.

Method used: Analytical method was used for the analysis of relevant legal provisions, by linking the same with technical aspects of evidence collection in nuclear crimes.

The aim is to identify general legal provisions relating to the topic of this study.

Key findings: Nuclear crimes differ from traditional ones: nuclear crimes involve nuclear damage, and their crime scenes include spatial and temporal scales in addition to places of evidence collection and pursuit of perpetrators.

Contributions and effect if any: Providing a definition for nuclear crime; explaining associated risks, spatial and temporal scales; identifying judicial officers’ jurisdiction and powers in nuclear crime scene examination as well as ways and rules governing such examination for the collection of relevant evidence
