Abstract EN

This study examines the traditional interest in the reader/audience through the project of Al-Mudhafar Al- Alawi who attempted to define the concept of poetry, and gave special attention to the notion of reception in his definition.

This enabled us to benefit from recent studies and procedures in this area and inspired an important share of the present work which falls into four sections.

The first section includes the basic concepts of reception theory by Jauss and Iser, interpolated by some classical comparisons in relation to method and understanding.

The second section details the types of recipients as identified by Al-Alawi’s Code based on the differences in listening and reading; while the third one includes components of the poetic text and their relationship to reception, such as, language, image and music.

Finally, the fourth section diagnoses the factors affecting the communicative function and response of the reader/audience, such as variation in the readers’ environments, the time of reception, as well as the place where the poetic text was received.
