This paper focuses on Girish Karnad`s use of myth in his plays to express the bad conditions that women suffer from in the patriarchal society.

It examines the role of Karnad in modernizing the mythological tales of India to express the modern situation of women.

The paper clarifies the postcolonial feministic approach which is adopted by Karnad in his plays.

Nagamandala is selected to show the use of myth the use of the postcolonial approach in Karnad`s work.
