Abstract EN

: The present study deals with innuendo in discourse, which is a discursive strategy through which the speaker intends to explain his intentions and convince his audience by controlling their behaviour using implicit style rather than explicit.

Hence, this research is divided into two main parts; a theoretical part dealing with informative and disciplinary rules along with the communicative purpose and the intention of the speaker in the discourse taking place, whereas, the second part is practical emphasizing Ahmed Chaouki's innuendo in poetic discourse.

It analyzes the role of innuendo in metaphors and illocutionary acts that carry within the intended objective served in poetic discourse.

The paper concluded that poetic discourse is fraught with innuendo regarding its unique discourse structure and linguistic mode.

These features qualify it to be studied following a pragmatic approach towards the.
