Abstract EN

Collocation is the tendency of certain words in a language to combine with one another in predictable ways, as against others that do not have this tendency, and the meaning of which can be inferred from at least one of the constituents of the collocation.

This study concentrates on metonymical collocations in English and Arabic.

It is hypothesized that collocations take various structures, some of which are similar in the two languages and they reflect metonymical expressions.

It comes up with some important results.
