Abstract EN

The study aims to test the effectiveness of the expansionary austerity policy in the Brazilian economy based on the data of the period (1980-2017), by building a structural model consisting of several equations, which was resolved to test the effectiveness of expansionary austerity policies in stimulating the rate of economic growth and addressing inflation and unemployment in Brazil.

The results of the study found that the expansionary austerity policy is ineffective in stimulating real gross domestic product in Brazil.The study also concluded that the relationship between government spending and private investment spending in Brazil is positive, which is complementary, which also supports the hypothesis of the ineffectiveness of expansionary austerity policy in stimulating economic growth for Brazil.

The study also has found that expansionary austerity policy did not work in the case of unemployment, While for the results show that austerity policy are effective in the case of inflation for the Brazilian economy.
