English Abstract

Focus the current investigation is to evaluate the effect of location pattern of prestressing tendons used to connect segments of the box segmental beams.

For this study, six beams were produced and tested.

Two of these beams, monolithically, were cast monolithically to be reference beam and the others were cast and formed segmentally.

All the beams were cast with Self-Compact Concrete (SCC) and box cross section.

Each of segmental beam consisted of three precast concrete segments were connected by internal tendons.

The six beams were divided into two groups.

Each group have same characteristics of the other group, but different in post tensioning tendons distribution and different joint types between the segments.

Two types of post tensioning pattern were used to fabricate segmental beams, one of them by using one tendon in each corner of beam cross section.

In the second pattern of post tensioning, tendons were applied through centers of flanges and webs the box beam section.

The types of joints used were (dried and epoxied).

All beams were tested under static two point loads up to failure.

For each test, deflections at mid-span location were recorded for each (5kN).

Also, first cracking and ultimate loads were recorded as well as the ductility factors for all beams.
