Abstract EN
The association between cannabis use and psychosis has long been recognized, and there has been considerable debate about the reasons for this association.
Similar debate occurred decades ago about the association of tobacco smoking and lung cancer.
Sir Austin Bradford Hill, back in 1965, proposed that the following aspects of the association should be considered when assessing the likelihood of causation as an interpretation of the observed association: (1) Strength of the association; (2) Consistency of the observed association; (3) Specificity of the association; (4) Temporality; (5) Gradient (dose-response relationship); (6) Plausibility; (7) Coherence; (8) Experiment; and (9) Analogy.
