Abstract EN

The phenomenon of fission in housing units is one of the urban phenomena that have emerged recently in the holy city of Karbala as a result of many reasons، most notably the housing crisis، as this phenomenon has taken a clear challenge to the housing structure in terms of the large increase in population densities، which in turn led to pressure in the efficiency of the infrastructure services provided to these neighborhoods.

In this research، the field survey method was adopted in collecting data related to split housing units، as well as using aerial and satellite visuals of the region for the year 2019 AD.

The number of residential neighborhoods covered in the study reached (15) out of (25) regular residential neighborhoods in Al-Jazeera sector (one of the main residential sectors in the city of Karbala)، as the number of constructed units in each neighborhood was calculated whether they were split or not split، as well as housing plots not constructed until 2019.

The number of split housing units in the study area (Al-Jazeera sector) reached (6822).

A number of properties of these housing units were also studied، which are the area of the housing unit، the number of floors، the date of building the housing unit، the garden of the house، and the type of fission.
