The Free Patriotic Party established its own militia in the year 1968, especially after the emergence of the armed Palestinian resistance on Lebanese soil, claiming the reason for its establishment to defend the Christian community after the weakness of the Lebanese state and the spread of the Palestinian resistance factions and its alliance with the militias of the Lebanese Islamic parties, so the party began establishing military camps to train its members He had to conceal arms until 1970, when he formally declared that he possessed a military militia to defend the Christian community, which he called the Free Tigers Brigade, which had a major role in all the battles of the Lebanese Civil War in 1975, until its collapse and its official abolition in 1980.
