Abstract EN

The present study examines the image of the Arab city in the contemporary Arabic novel in the time of the cultural shock that the Arab countries are experiencing, and that Syria has been living since the coup of the Baath Party in 1963 to this day.

The study analyses Khalid Khalifa's "Praise of Hatred" and "Laskakin in the Kitchens of this City".

Thus, the political and social unrest has led to the search for utopian alternatives to overcome and eliminate the topographical vulnerabilities of the city space.

It reveals the city's relationship with man and its image, through the narrative of the city and its buildings, which are based on violence.

Hence, this research scrutinises how Khalid Khalifa employed the city as a literary bestseller of tragedy.
