Abstract EN

The major aim of the present research paper is to shed light on the most important images of the West in the modern Arab visualisation through the investigation of different perceptions held by the Arab writers and the extent to which they have been affected by the Western thought.

The paper analyses literary writings by Tawfiq al-Hakim, Taha Hussein, Hussein Fawzi, Ahmed Amin, Rafa'a al-Tahtawi, Ahmed Fares al-Shidiac and so on.

This research has proven in the end that Arabs vision to the West are different; three different streams were revealed; namely, acceptance and absolute fascination stream, refusal stream as well as pragmatic and positive interaction stream
