Producing a text is not always an easy task for a student of a foreign language.
The text cannot be reduced to an addition of juxtaposed units.
The relationship between the whole and the part is not the same as that which governs (sub)phrastic unity and its immediate constituents.
What makes the unity of a text depends on different levels of analysis of textual organizations that use semantics, argumentation, structuring, and the enunciation.
This article presents a textual approach, originating from the linguistics of the text, in order to describe the difficulties encountered by French as a foreign language university students in the production of so-called argumentative texts

Produire un texte n'est pas toujours une tâche facile pour un étudiant d'une langue étrangère.
Le texte ne peut se réduire à une addition d'unités juxtaposées.
Le rapport qui lie le tout à la partie ne s'assimile pas à celui qui régit l'unité (sub)phrastique et ses constituants immédiats.
Ce qui fait l'unité d'un texte relève de niveaux d'analyse différents d'organisations de la textualité qui font appel à la sémantique, l'argumentation, la structuration, l'énonciation.
Cet article présente une approche textuelle, trouvant son origine dans le cadre de la linguistique du texte, afin de décrire des difficultés que rencontrent des apprenants universitaires de français langue étrangère dans la production de textes dits argumentatifs.
