The functional meaning represents the meaning or functional intentions of an utterance.

It is not lexical, i.e.

the verbal image in a sentence or in a context.

The first person who suggested functional grammar is Simon Dik in 1978.

Functional grammar is not limited to studying the role played by words or phrases in a sentence.

That is, it is not confined to studying the structural functions, but rather it studies the different situations and contexts, and then it combines the three functions: semantic, synthetic, and pragmatic.

According to Arab scholars, functional grammar is known as the science of grammar.

Grammar is a discipline that identifies the rules of the Arabic word as a lexical item and in combination with other words.

The semantic meaning represents the sum of the analytical and functional meaning, the lexical meaning of words, and the situational meaning.

This means the social meaning that combines the current clues to the contextual ones, and thus the semantic meaning is achieved.
