Abstract EN

Background and Objective: Laparoscopic surgery has greatly improved surgical outcome in different abdominal surgery.

But many concerns of safety have limited its application in abdominal trauma.

The purpose of this study is to demonstrate the possibility of using laparoscopic in management of stable patients with abdominal trauma and potential advantages of laparoscopy.

Methods and Materials: Aretrospective study was conducted in Algolan Hospital from January 2012 to August 2017, a total of 70 patients underwent emergent surgical exploration, Laparotomy was performed in 36 and laparoscopy in 34 patients, laparoscopy was performed in patients who were hemodynamically stable.

The evaluation was conducted to determine peritoneal penetration, the presence of intra-abdominal blood, and the need for exploration Results: The conversion rate was 23,5%.

Without increasing in postoperative mortality or complications.

Comparing laparoscopic surgery with open laparotomy, lesser wound infection, early gas passage, and shorter hospitalization.

Otherwise operative times were similar, and neither approach was complicated by missed injury or postoperative intra-abdominal abscess.

Conclusions: Laparoscopic surgery can be performed safely whether injuries are blunt or penetrating, given hemodynamic stability and proper technique.

Patients may benefit from the shorter hospital stays, less pain, quicker recoveries, and low morbidity/mortality rates that laparoscopy affords.
