Abstract EN

Translation criticism is an independent area of Translation Studies and many attempts have been doneby translation theorists and practitioners to improve it.

According to Antoine Berman, translation criticism should not be a mere identification of errors, an intuitive or highly subjective assessment, and when a critic aims at criticizing a translated text, he must consider all the different positive and negative aspects of that text, and tries to explain the reasons of translator's failure in rendering the meaning and preserving the stylistics effects of the source text.

This paper sheds light on the contribution of some of Berman's steps of translation criticism to retranslation improvement.

The study deals with Mohammed Dib's Novel intitled "Le métier à tisser" and its two translations into Arabic by Ahmed Ben Mohammed Bakelli and Samy Droubi.
