Abstract EN

This article deals with the military arrangements established by the Ottomans in Algeria in the late Ottoman period, through what the French writings mentioned, such as consuls and travelers, and a group of historians, we find that they considered a military republic.

The military establishment has been considered the basic base on which the Ottoman regime in Algeria is based, this system that the Turks firmly applied.

The pigmentation of the Algerian hierarchy with the military character is due to the circumstances during which the hierarchy was established, where the Ottomans established their rule based on the idea of considering the Sultan as the supreme leader of all political, military and religious bodies in the state.

Some of them are in the form of a chain link, starting with the smallest rulers of units in the state, and passing through the governors of the states until it ends in the High Gate, the center of the Ottoman authority, and the administrative system in the Algerian assignment was an important aspect in the relations between them and the central authority in Istanbul.

The Algerian dependency found itself obligated to preserve its military character, in order to be able to confront the attacks that it was subjected to from time to time by some European countries, and the most famous campaigns against which the dependency was experienced in the two centuries [17 and 18] France’s campaigns in the years 1665 and 1684, and one Denmark in 1770, Spain in 1775 and in 1784.
