Abstract EN

The literary studies in Turkish Literature that deals with Kaaba are called “Kaaba-nāma” in general.

The first ever work known with this title is the masnawi penned by Abdurrahman Gubarī (d.

974 H/1566 AD) of Akşehir.

The work consists of 3199 couplets.

Sāfī also had a masnawi named Kaaba-nāma that was authored in 1131 H/1719 AD.

Both Ali Osman al-Oushī and Abu al-Fadhl Muhammad produced works that are considered to be in this genre.

There are also works of the kind named “Manasik al-Hac and Manazil al-Hac” that contain pieces of verses about Kaaba.

In Gubarī‟s works titled “Manasik al-Hac and Masahat-nāma” that are composed of 700 couplets there are bits of information regarding the construction and measurements of the Holy Shrine.

In his prose named Manasik al-Masālik Abdurrahman Hibrī, combining the two genres above-mentioned, transmitted some details related to the construction and renovation of the Kaaba and the Masjid al-Haram.

Of the 17th century poets Sulhī had a work composed of 67 couplets and titled “Dar-bayān-i „adad-i Manāzil al-Hijaz” wherein the poet exalts Kaaba.

Another Ottoman poet, Bahktī of Morea wrote down his work in 1056 H/1647 AD that was titled Manzūma-i Manasik al-Hajj.

It was one of the mostly known works of its kind.

There are several other works, both in verse and in prose, which dealt with Hejaz.

In this very presentation we are to treat the work, “Menâzil at-tarīq ilâ beytillâh al-atīq”, which was put onto paper by Abdulkadir Çelebi (pennamed as Kadrī) during his visit to the Holy Land in 1056 H/1647 AD.

The version used is the copy of the original manuscript held in the Library of Millet in Istanbul.

It consists of 61 folios and contains eight chapters.

The poet speaks about Hejaz in between the fifth and the eighth chapters.

Here you will find a general treatment of the manuscript and the translation of the parts on Hejaz into Arabic.
