Abstract EN

This article attempts to identify the main characteristics of the work activity as it has been and as it is still known in modern industrial societies.

After having recalled the importance of work and its anthropological definition, according to which this refers to any physical or intellectual effort deployed by man to ensure the satisfaction of his needs, the study attempted to define the features of which this characterizes work in the societies created.

Three main features: "absolute domination", "restricted rationality" and, finally, "increasing scarcity", appear, according to the present study, to characterize work in modern industrial societies.
