This paper seeks to elucidate the structural and semantic significance the insertion of the letter" r" on trilateral roots has.

Source of material is gleaned from 'Lisan Al-Arab' by Ibn Mandhoor.

The research shows that the 'r' contributes effectively and more than any letter in changing trilateral roots into quadruple ones.

This insertion serves a semantic purport, namely exaggeration and multiplication of meaning.

Forty-one entries are cited with the meaning of exaggeration, a number of which is more than enough to prove the point of the article.

It is worth mentioning that the number of entries cited by Ibn Fares in 'Maqayees al-Logha' / language standards' did not exceed thirty-five citations.
