Honored and bullied' how digital media presented covid-19 and NHS workers in Egypt : an analytical study

Abstract EN

This study aims to discover the features of changing of morals and behaviors in the Egyptian society as covid-19 crisis has its social effects and to clarify the role of digital media in facing the antisocial actions and raising awareness of the ways of spreading the infection.

the researcher has conducted the content analysis of 53 Facebook posts from 15 march to 20 April 2020, during the period of quarantine and curfew in Egypt.

the results indicated that the Egyptians support the NHS workers who fight the virus to protect their people.

positive sympathy and motivational words have been posted and shared through social networks to support both NHS workers and covid-19 patients.

raising the awareness towards the negative impact of bullying on the mental health of covid-19 patients is an essential issue because there are a number of suicide attempts for covid-19 patients as a result of the fear of stigma and social perceptions.
