New possibilities in young adult fiction (YA)‎ : Edward Bloor's tangerine as a case study

The study sheds light on the significance of the recently flourished field of young adult fiction as it gives its definition and characteristics, historical background and critical reception.

It discusses an example of young adult novel through the study of Tangerine by Edward Bloor.

The paper aims at opening a new area of critical discussion and research, that is of 'Young Adult Fiction ' or as it is commonly known as YA.

On one hand, researchers could explore a new and fertilized area of study.

On the other hand, the paper is suggesting that a course could be included in the academic curriculum at university level in departments of English language; some simplified versions of such kind of fiction could be included in intermediate and especially in secondary school curricula to enhance the students' ability for reading.

More importantly, this type of YA fiction encourages students to engage in complex discussions, discover similarities, embrace differences, and make spaces for asking questions.

Students could identify with characters in the stories as the problems discussed could be very close to the ones they suffer from.
