Abstract EN

This study aims to analyze the content of a famous historical novel entitled ‘the book thief ’ written by Markus Zusak in 2005.

the plot of this novel concentrate on the period of the Germany Nazi party led by Adolf Hitler (1933-1945) where the Nongerman books had been burned and destroyed.

in these events, the protagonist of the novel named Liesel Meminger is a nine-year-old girl living in Germany Duringworld war ii.

this girl was described as a bibliokleptomaniac person or a book thief because she affected by a mania for stealing books to read it.

the study used a content analysis methodology based on this novel in the Arabic edition published in 2018 in order to identify the importance of the novel from the point view of library and information science.

the study found that Liesel Meminger had already stolen six books and received other books in different social events.

the study identified four motivations for the theft of books as following: emotional motivation, motivation of anger, motivation of revenge, and motivation of reading.

the results revealed that the reading habits of Liesel Meminger are the passion of reading, recording the new vocabulary, a strategy of re-reading and reading for others for entertainment and comfort.
