Abstract EN

Urban development indicators perform the tools for measuring the state of development according to the priorities identified in the comprehensive strategy for sustainable development.

the more urban indicators the more accurate the assessment of the state of development.

due to the difficulty of dealing with a large number of indicators, the study relied on factor analysis in an attempt to intensify indicators in a limited number of factors according to the correlation relations between them.

in this research, the urban indicators of medina region were based on the results produced by the regional development department in medina municipality in 1439 h.

the urban indicators were categorized and grouped according to their importance and actual contribution to the development process, and the spatial variability of these factors was identified at the level of cities in medina region, using GIS and the statistical analysis (SPSS) programs.

thus the analysis of urban development indicators in medina region resulted in eight derivative factors that were interpreted as a combination of 99% of the variation in the original variables (factor 1 27%, factor 26%, factor 313%, factor 13%, factor 13%, factor 13% 9%, 6th factor 8%, 7th factor 7%,8th factor 5%).

it could be said : this is a very high percentage showing that the vast majority of the analysis indicators have been included in the interpretation process.

the results of the analysis show, the first factor "quality of urban land uses" was the most important derivative and has been associated with34 developmental indicators that collectively accounted for 27.893% of the total variation in the main variables, while medina and Yanbu cities respectively came as the highest cities associated with this factor.

in real, it was a logical result because they are areas of population and functional weights in medina region, the rest of the cities of the region followed them with varying relations depending on their regional role.
