Abstract EN

Diversity” in the Classics has diverse senses.

On the one hand, it refers to the desired balance in the profession with respect to gender, ethnicity, religious affiliation, and other socially acknowledged identities, which is still far from being achieved.

On the other hand, there is the diversification of the discipline of the Classics itself, from its traditional focus on the intellectual achievements and political history of ancient Greece and Rome to a wider concern with what we may call the margins of the classical world.

This article explores the necessary and fruitful interaction between these two aspects of diversity in the Classics
