The genogram is one of the most important diagnostic tools in the field of general psychology and in family psychology in particular, through which the information is collected by a case study.

The genogram provides the psychologist with the course of life, situation and the important events that he and his family have received through three generations (grandparents, parents, children).

By means of planning, graphic shapes and symbols, the quality of the disorders, whether physical, psychological or mental, are identified in the family members, and also highlights the social problems and emotional relations among their member.

Thus, this tool helps specialists in the process of diagnosing and predicting diseases, and prevention as well.

Furthermore, it illustrates how social problems and emotional connections affect the family system.
