Le texte a toujours les caractéristiques de l'apport sémantique, de nouveaux renseignements à faire connaitre au lecteur.
Les données nouvelles doivent reposer sur des données connues ou qui viennent d'être connues par le lecteur dans les phrases précédentes.
L'ordre du connu et de l'inconnu, selon lequel les phrases sont liées les unes aux autres, assurant une meilleure progression de l'information dans le texte dont les contraintes qu'il stipule porte sur des traits (logico) sémantiques, au bout du compte linguistiques.
