Abstract EN

The present study aimed to identify the role of student councils and unions in Jordanian universities in forming political awareness among students, and to identify individual differences in the sample responses to the role of student councils and unions in Jordanian universities in forming students ’political awareness due to the variable of gender and college.

The descriptive analytical approach was used.

The study sample consisted of (244) male and female students in Jordanian universities, as they were selected randomly, and the questionnaire tool was used, which consisted of (26) items distributed into four areas, namely: The first area is the council’s environment, the second area is the council’s concerns, the third is the student’s relationship with the council, and the fourth is the council’s activities.

The results of the study showed that the role of student councils and unions in Jordanian universities in shaping students ’political awareness came with a high turnout.

The council’s environment ranked second, the council’s relationship with students in third place, and the council’s activities in the last place.

The study recommended the necessity of educating the members of student councils and unions about the importance of joint political action, especially with regard to political tensions and influences, the need to improve the environment of student councils and unions with an appropriate degree of objectivity and freedom away from political tensions and influences, and the need to teach students curricula related to political awareness and national belonging, as a requirement A university based on the relationship of the individual to the other, and good planning of student activities by those responsible, activating their role, and supporting student activities that work on developing and forming students' political awareness.
