Abstract EN

Scholarly refereeing is a system based on editorial mediation; where a paper’s manuscript passes through a cycle or series of reviews, feedback, and modification rounds, before a paper’s proof emerges in its latest version with the highest quality standard for the final reader.

The first step begins with the author submitting his paper to the refereed journal, and the next step is taken by the editor who carefully selects the referees (usually two or three peers).

When the independent expert referees finish reviewing the paper, the editor collects their well-done reports and makes a decision that is sent to the author (accept, reject or need modifying).

This research paper aims to focus on the main issues affecting the quality of referees’ selection (poor choice), the quality of transparent refereeing (anonymity of authors and referees), and the quality of refereeing reports for research in Islamic economics and finance (a large degree of variability).

This system represents an essential control mechanism for safeguarding the quality and integrity of published research, through its intended goals of filtering and improving papers.

Finally, this research paper concludes with a number of suggestions that contribute to controlling the quality of refereeing for research in Islamic economics and finance.
