Abstract EN

This paper is a thematic study of water in the holy Quran for its significant importance.

the study shows that water is mentioned in 65% of the total number of surahs in the Quran.

furthermore, the word "water" appears in fifteen stories of the prophets, out of the twenty five stories mentioned in the Quran and this shows the importance of water in the words of the creator.

the Quran mentions four different meanings of water: rain, sperm, the Quran, and the colorless, tasteless and odorless liquid important for life.

it is also worth noting that the Quran has a rich description of the various purposes of water; it does not only mention water in its liquid state, but also in its solid and gas states such as hail and clouds.

this paper explains that the mention of water in the Quran is not limited only to earth, but rather it is extended to the skies and air, which include the clouds and rain.

water is a blessing that Allah has bestowed upon his creations including mankind, who is created from clay; a mixture of dust and water.

thus, the whole of the human race is descended from flowing waters (sperm), and man remains dependent on water during his life on earth and afterlife in heavens in accordance with his good faith and deeds.

this study also analyzes the mention of water in contexts such as proof of lordship, gratitude, harnessing of creation, reminder of the blessing of water, resurrection, legal provisions (ablution), historical reporting, and setting examples.
