This research paper aimed: theoretically to review the theoretical literature related to the concepts of foreign direct investment in the field for the methods used in its statistics and recording.

As well as the theoretical rooting for its various forms and varieties.

In an attempt to answer a problem statement.

The criteria and foundations adopted in determining the patterns of foreign direct investment, using the exploratory approach and relying on the descriptive analytical method as the study methodology.

The study concluded the following results: There is almost unanimity that it is the investment that guarantees the foreign owner of the national economy the right to exercise supervision and management of his activity, and there are five main methods in the methodology for preparing the statement and the methods for collecting foreign direct investment statistics, which are: International system for the recognition of transactions International, comprehensive or sample survey of projects, project establishment data, investment partner country data.

Finally, the reasons for doing this type of investment have varied from internal considerations specific to the investor himself and his activity and other external factors that drive or motivate him to make this investment from the policies of the country of origin and the country hosting its investment.
