The research attempts to answer a question: "Were the exegetical texts subjected to modification and change in order to later become a Quranic reading? " To answer this question, the research deals with the exegetical readings with a critical study to find out their original exegetical narrations that have been subjected to change and modification.

The research then provides practical examples from Islamic sources confirming the existence of a group of narrators specialized in fabricating and changing the exegetical texts to simulate the style of Quranic readings.

The research then performs and inductive survey on the opinions of exegetes from the second to the fifth century AH to find out the nature of their dealings with exegetical and reading texts.

The research concludes with an account on the fabricated readings in the Islamic heritage.
