Football chants and youth political behavior in Algeria : case study : Hirak protests

in English language: Football chants make an integral part of the game; their sense can in one hand describe highlights moments on the pitch.

But on the other hand, these chants seem to represent also a space for fans to express themselves in a collective way, most often their involvement with socio-political conditions.

This study attempts to zoom-in on the Algerian case, where football has been interplayed with politics through different time stages of the country.

The study seeks to understand how young fans have found in football a space to manifest their political behavior using chants in terraces.

These chants have reached their zenith when they where discernibly repeated by protestors of the Hirak movement which started in February 2019.

Les chants de football font partie intégrante du jeu, les fans chantent sur les terrasses pour décrire les moments forts sur le terrain.

Cependant, ces chants peuvent également offrir un espace aux fans pour s'exprimer de manière collective, notamment leur implication dans les conditions sociopolitiques.

Cette étude tente de zoomer sur le cas algérien, où le football a été interagi avec la politique à travers différentes étapes du temps du pays, apparemment où de jeunes fans ont trouvé dans ce jeu un espace pour manifester leur comportement politique à l'aide de chants de football.

Ces chants ont atteint leur apogée lorsqu'ils ont été répétés de manière perceptible par les manifestants du mouvement Hirak lancé en février 2019.
