Abstract EN

The present article exposes the problematic of receiving the term ‘pragmatics’, determining its conceptualization by Arab scholars and the ensuing terminological confusion which generated a plethora of approximate concepts in the course of attempting to answer the question of what is meant by pragmatics.

This term has been surrounded in its Arabic context by multiple connotations, namely: linguistic, critical, literary and epistemological, which has made it difficult to specify and thus, challenging for any attempt to exploit its performative tools.

Hence, we have decided to provide a reading that will contribute to tease out the meaning of the term, or –at least- arouse the interest of the scholars specialized in terminology in general and the literary-wise in particular.
