Abstract EN

The psychological trend occupies a special place in the modern novel and there is no novel which does not embrace and display this at least at varying degrees because the nature of novels conjures up humanitarian attitudes and psychological states expressed by different characters as they engage and interact in dialogues.

However, mechanisms of descriptions to psychological states and their display in the modern novel are quite different from the novel in classical Arabic.

This is due to the techniques and narrative styles.

In this concern, literary flashback (analepsis) is valued to be a modern narrative technique that gives the psychological dimension an artistic trend in the narrative discourse.

This paper elucidates the function of this technique and its relationship with the aesthetic side within the modern Arabic novel.
